About Richard

Richard is an ASCAP Award-winning composer and lyricist. His music and lyrics for musicals include ROCKSTAR WIDOW, THE BOY IN THE BOAT, THE PRISONER, and BOLTS OF MELODY. Other shows with Mark Wilder include VENTURE CAPITAL, WITH EYES OPEN, and THE INFINITE MONKEY THEOREM.

He has received commissions and grants from orchestras, arts councils, theaters, and soloists.

An experienced and innovative arts administrator, Richard has held positions at The Colony Theatre, Write Act Rep, Blue Angel Theatre, Pico Playhouse, Playwrights Horizons, and as artistic director of the Bloomington Playwrights Project where he produced over 100 plays by a diverse group of authors.

For several years, Richard co-lead his own film company and produced two feature films. He also worked on shows including THE WEST WING, HIDDEN HILLS, THE PRACTICE, and on a dozen films.

He holds a B.Mus in Music Composition, an MFA in Composition and Orchestration, and has done Masters-level work in theater. He's studied with David Diamond, Michael Hennagin, Dan Welcher, and David Blumberg.

He wrote the Amazon bestseller on songwriting: WRITE SONGS YOU LOVE NOW. He has taught classes on songwriting, composing, theater, and filmmaking all over the country including for Houston Grand Opera, American Festival for the Arts, and Indiana University.

Richard is a proud member of ASCAP and the Dramatist Guild. He's an alum of the BMI Lehman Engel Music Theatre Workshop.
