Halelegy

Please contact me for a perusal recording and score.

When we moved to Houston in Spring 2010, one musician and new friend immediately started connecting me with people. Before I knew it he became my first composition student in years and an instant dear friend. Much too soon, he passed away. Halelegy is a play on his name, Hal, and the idea of an elegy but in true Hal fashion it is constantly breaking out of the constraints of being an elegy until it ends up something completely different. Composed rapidly during the late Spring in Houston, Octet for Winds came out of a series of early Tuesday morning writing sessions. The piece premiered in July of 2011 as part of the HighScore Festival in Pavia, Italy. It also has the distinction of being the last piece I wrote in Finale.
